Music can be a great power for good, yet we do not make the most of this branch of worship. The singing is generally done from impulse or to meet special cases, and at other times those who sing are left to blunder along, and the music loses its proper effect upon the minds of those present. Music should have beauty, pathos, and power. Let the voices be lifted in songs of praise and devotion. Call to your aid, if practicable, instrumental music, and let the glorious harmony ascend to God, an acceptable offering.”—Testimonies, vol. 4, p. 71. “The singing is not always to be done by a few. As often as possible, let the entire congregation join.”—Testimonies, vol. 9, pp. 143, 144.

Psalm 150 commands us to “Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness… Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”

As a multi-cultural church it is the goal of the Music Department to offer a blended worship service that includes both contemporary and traditional styles. Here at Oakwood University Church we will provide a worship experience that celebrates our history, while becoming the musical glimpse into Heaven – a place where all will worship together in praise to our God.

Music Ministry's Vision

To provide the highest quality in church music through various genres not as a demonstration of our talent but as a “Sacrifice of Praise” to God.

Music Ministry's Goals

To lead our congregation in praise and worship to God with the voice and instruments. To provide a balanced program that appreciates our past and embraces our future.

To have an inclusive program where all can participate with the voice or instrument.
